“The first problem was the horn randomly honking which progressively got worse to the point it was blaring and would not stop when the engine was turned off. We had the horn hard wired bypassing the t.I.p.m. Randomly the throttle is unresponsive and then the car shuts down and sometimes will not restart for a while. We replaced the fuel pump and this did not resolve the problem.”
NHTSA complaint #10983338, filed 2017-05, 160,000 miles“When at the fuel pump getting gas it overfills every time. Safety hazard has a rough idle when sitting at a stop light without a check engine light and no check engine light has come up for it. Speedometer is off door handle sticks not allowing me to close my door while I'm in it have to push the handle towards the door to get it to close. Trunk doesn't close all the way. Also when opening after it rains it leaks all over my stuff”
NHTSA complaint #11287929, filed 2019-12, 120,000 miles“I own a 2008 Dodge Avenger r/t. When filling the gas tank the automatic shutoff does not engage and the fuel erupts out of the car. The only two options for a fix are to replace the gas tank or guess the amount of fuel to put into the car. This happens on any and every pump that I use regardless of what pump or what station I go to.”
NHTSA complaint #10407319, filed 2011-06, 113,000 miles“When fueling up, the pump shuts off automatically but pressure inside the tank causes fuel to gush out of the tank all over the side of the vehicle, the ground and me if I'm standing too close. This has been an issue for many months. I've tried several fuel stations, several pumps at the same station. All cause gas to gush out .”
NHTSA complaint #10373834, filed 2011-01, 62,000 miles“My 2008 Dodge Avenger will spill fuel at every refueling regardless if I use the locking mechanism on the fuel pump or if I fill by hand when the tank gets to full tank. It's almost like there is too much pressure built up that it spits fuel back out. This is a common occurrence with a lot of new avengers. Just do a simple google search on Dodge Avenger gas overflows . Dodge please issue a recall.”
