“On october 5, 2016 at approximately 12:45 p.m., l engaged the cruise control at a speed of 55 miles per hour. When I pressed on the brake pedal the truck accelerated to a speed of 60 miles and higher. I tested the cruise control system twice more and it did the same thing. The vehicle never slowed down. This is a safety hazard. I was on dam neck road where the speed limit is 55 miles per hour. This is a city street. After this occurred my engine light came on, which clearly indicates a mechanical problem. …”
NHTSA complaint #10914030, filed 2016-10, 61,000 miles“2005 Dodge Dakota quad cab v8 2wd. Vehicle has been to original dealer 3-4 times. Once to replace the rear brakes under a recall. At least 2-3 times to fix a rough idle and a miss at light throttle cruising speed. Original dealer called it a fish bite. Is that a technical term I missed? Another called it beaming. I guess these are technical terms learned at big city dealer school. Driving at speeds from 25-85 MPH truck seems to run rough. And also seems to have lost some power. Mpg has gone from 18.5 to 15. Have been told everytime we reset the computer, nothing is wrong, ergo it is fixed. …”
NHTSA complaint #10160694, filed 2006-06, 17,500 miles“Keys partly slip out of ignition causing electrical failures. While in motion, if you bump your keys with your knee or hit a bump in the road, multiple dashboard warning lights appear and gauges, including the speedometer, will give inaccurate or nonexistent readings. Cruise control and other systems may fail. Vehicle must be pulled over and turned off to clear the electrical failures. This failure can occur multiple times in one trip.”
NHTSA complaint #10851207, filed 2016-03, 42,000 miles“The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Dakota. While driving 45 to 70 MPH, there was an abnormal noise. The accelerator pedal was applied, but did not respond. The contact had to apply force to the accelerator pedal. The vehicle randomly shifted from 2 to 4 wheel drive without warning. The vehicle was diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 54,000.”
