“My 1998 Dodge Intrepid 2.7l 6 cyl. Has a problem with the idle speed. It almost acts like the car is out of timing but this only occures after the car is at running temperature. Many other things have gone wrong but would take me the rest of the night to explain them all. I have had to replace the wire to the oil pressure sending unit. I had to fix the clip on my driver side window. My rotors allways feel like they are warped and shake when I slow down. I'm stuck on what to do about this engine failure thing because my wife and I still have around $4000 to pay on the car. …”

NHTSA complaint #10065739, filed 2004-04, 92,000 miles

“Wife backed out of a parking space in a mall parking lot. When she put the car in drive, car accelerated out of control. The car jumped two (2) mall parking medians before she was able to put the car in neutral. Tires were blown out on the left side from impacts with the medians. The left side wheels were damaged as was the body on the left side. On starting the car later, the engine began to race. The dealer and chrysler acknowledge that there was a part failure in the cruise control. They both denied any responsibility for the failure.”

NHTSA complaint #10014002, filed 2003-04, 77,500 miles

“Car stalls at speeds in excess of 60 MPH. Check engine light flashes about 5 times and vehicle experiences an immediate loss of acceleration ability. Car coasts to a near stop and stalls completely locking the steering wheel. While engine is hot vehicle will not start. Cruise control light and oil light remain on longer than any other dashboard lights. Vehicle starts again only after sitting for hours. Vehicle will only start when it is cold. At highway speeds this has happened twice in the last two weeks. Vehicle stores no codes for mechanic to diagnose problem.”

NHTSA complaint #10028502, filed 2003-07, 131,000 miles

“Dt: the contact owns a 1998 Dodge Intrepid. The engine stalled while driving on the freeway at a steady speed at 40 MPH. The engine did restart at about 30-40 minutes later. This happened 8 times since this began 3 weeks ago. Today the dealer replaced a crank sensor, but as of yet she has not driven the vehicle to see if it was repaired.”

NHTSA complaint #10133364, filed 2005-08

“Cruise control disengages intermittently while driving. Need to shut off engine and restart to re-engage cruise control. Have been to the dealer 3 times previously. First two times dealer could not duplicate problem. Dealer replaced coast switch on third visit. Problem reoccured after this part was replaced.”
