“I could not shift the automatic transmission out of park. When the tow truck operator showed up he already had the tools out to release the shifter. He said this is a very common problem with chrysler vehicles. Going online I have found this to be true. There apparently is a small plastic piece that holds a spring that breaks.”
NHTSA complaint #10346643, filed 2010-08, 66,715 miles“Drove the o store, put the car in park as usual. When I left the store and tried to shift into reverse but the shifter would not move. I called Dodge only to be told its not covered. I told them I was aware of how common this problem is and they told me too bad- its not under a recall so its your problem! I found over 300 similar cases online - how can it not be a recall!!”
NHTSA complaint #10372037, filed 2010-12, 62,500 miles“Automatic transmission shifter locked in park and would not move. Vehicle had to be towed to shop.extended warranty company denied claim, saying that this was not part of the transmission. The dealer charged me $500.00 to replace the shifter. Dodge agreed to pay half, but I believe that this is an ongoing condition of these vehicles that the manufacturer should pay for the fix and not offer me half.”
NHTSA complaint #10358925, filed 2010-10, 45,067 miles“On friday, july 1, 2011, my 2007 Dodge Magnum was stuck in park. The car would start and the motor was running, but I could not get the gear shifter to move out of park. I had to have the Magnum towed to the dealership to have it repaired. The dealership performed a diagnosis on tuesday, july 5, 2011, and called to inform my husband of the problem.............found internal shifter failure adn replaced shifter assembly, and the cost of repairs was $391.51.”
NHTSA complaint #10410588, filed 2011-07, 56,655 miles“I own a 2007 Dodge Magnum. My complaint is about the gear shifter on Dodge vehicles. The shifter sticks in the park position and has to be replaced at owners cost . My understanding this is an ongoing problem with this company's vehicles. I spoke with an employee with the dealership I have my car repaired, he made a statement that they have to repair about 10 a week. If this is an ongoing problem, do you not think the car company should be responsible in replacing the part that is malfunctioning ??”
