Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Since the truck was new it would spew gas from the filler tube after the fuel pump shuts off. There is an extended warranty on the fuel tank inlet check valve. Even though my problem is exactly what is described, because my VIN number search doesnt show my truck as being invlolved in the problem, Dodge will not fix the check valve.”

NHTSA complaint #10749917, filed 2015-08, 1,000 miles

“I filled up my gas tank with fuel and as I was merging onto the highway, the car stalled. It continued to stall for about 50 miles. Now every time I fill up my tank it will stall on me until I drive about 30-50 miles and the tank is no longer full. It is very dangerous and I cant let my wife or family drive it for fear of stalling and having an accident.”

NHTSA complaint #10511864, filed 2013-05, 78,000 miles

“I own a 2007 RAM 1500 that spits fuel back out and is not safe to the person filling it. It also creates a hazard with fuel on the ground. Dodge claims it was resolved in 2016 when I first had the problem. They are now unwilling to resolve their own repair for the same problem. Fuel 'spit-back' through the filler neck has been a longstanding problem in several chrysler, Dodge and jeep models, caused by the inlet check valve (icv) mounted in the fuel tank. …”

NHTSA complaint #11171928, filed 2019-01, 130,500 miles

“Sometimes when you stop at a red light or stop sign and then try to go the truck dies especially after getting gas and sometimes happens when turning to the right. We have taken it to the Dodge dealership several times for this problem but they haven't fixed it. We have a lifetime warranty but they haven't fixed it. The date at the bottom is the last time it happened but it has been happening for a few years and the dealership in tyler, texas has not fixed it.”

NHTSA complaint #11233545, filed 2019-07, 112,000 miles

“After the fuel tank is completely filled and the gas station refueling pump stops about a half a gallon of gasoline will violently spray out of the vehicle's refueling tube. This creates a puddle of fuel and often sprays on me. The spray comes out of the hole you insert the refueling nozzle into. I owed a 2006 Dodge durango with the same engine that had the exact same issue. I'm sure this is a common issue with this manufacturer.”
