Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“I was told the clock spring was the cause of the clicking noise. When the tech got into the steering to replace the clock spring it was not the problem. The problem was the steering column. This could be a safety problem if the steering column should lock up while I was driving my truck. The only way to fix the problem and make my truck safe again was to replace the steering column.”

NHTSA complaint #11046603, filed 2017-11, 90,000 miles

“While I was driving 60 miles an hour down 29 south, the vehicle just shut off, no power steering, no ABS brakes, after it came to a complete stop, put it in park, I turned the ignition off, then turned the ignition on and it started up an drove.”

NHTSA complaint #11342181, filed 2020-07, 177,234 miles

“Rack and pinion steering failed, fortunately on a side street near a dealership and not on major highway, we reported sudden brake line failure in 2015 on same vehicle - still awaiting response. No warning either issue. We are now extremely concerned.. Recalls were done on 2008-2013 but believe a year was missed! Hope no one was killed or injured. Fortunate now this is 10 year old truck but no warning either instance.. This never should have happened.”

NHTSA complaint #11072165, filed 2018-02, 130,000 miles

“Safety recall notice n62/ NHTSA 13v-528 - left tie rod. After going to chrysler for a replacement, I was told that it would take 52 weeks before the Dodge service department will receive the part for replacement. I believe this an acceptable time frame and not acceptable considering that failure of the part as described in the recall notice, could be a high risk event, placing myself and my family at risk.”

NHTSA complaint #10569301, filed 2014-03, 60,000 miles

“During normal driving conditions on the interstate 64 in richmond va, I experienced the so called death wobble after going over a bridge expansion joint. The front of my truck began to vibrate and shake uncontrollably. It stopped once the vehicle slowed to approx. 45 MPH.”

NHTSA complaint #10544727, filed 2013-09, 49,000 miles
