“Dt: contact stated he had a fuel leak. He also checked the vehicle and found that the throttle cable was breaking, 6 out of 7 strands were broken. There is no recall on this vehicle. The vehicle is parked at this time. Repairs have been made to the vehicle. Updated 11/7/2005. While searching for a new throttle cable the consumer discovered that the cable in his vehicle was of the type involved in a recall. The consumer's vehicle was not included in the recall due to VIN.”

NHTSA complaint #10142806, filed 2005-11, 222,500 miles

“Fuel metering failure. The engine ran away and did not stop when the key was turned off. I had to stall the engine with my brakes and had no steering because the key was off. I consider this to be a very serious incident and if my wife had been driving the truck, she would likely have wrecked it or blown up the engine!”

NHTSA complaint #722142, filed 2000-05

“My wife was trying to pass another car, when she stomped down on the accelerator to pass, it stayed there and the truck started to run away with her, she kept stomping on the pedal to get it to relese but it would not. She did get it to release somehow after several tries. After she got home I investigated the problem I found that the accelerator had frayed and must have somehow hung up on the tubing surrounding the cable. She could have been killed. I hope dc will recall or do something about this.”

NHTSA complaint #742009, filed 2001-03

“Consumer stepped on throttle and it became stuck, consumer had to shut off ignition in order to stop car. The strands on cable became unraveled at cable housing, causing throttle to stick wide open. Throttle cable and linkage were replaced by Dodge dealer at my expense. New cable and linkage are of a different/improved design.”

NHTSA complaint #863594, filed 2000-06

“Throttle cable, where it hooks onto fuel injection pump, is unraffling, according to recall 01 v 037 000. This can cause throttle not to return to idle. Consumer states he has replaced throttle cable and paid for the repairs he did not think it was safe to drive with throttle cable frayed.”
