Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Cruise control on vehicle will surge 10-15mph over speed at which it is set. In one instance the unit had been holding a steady 55mph for approx. 10 min. And began climbing through 65 before it was caught and disengaged. This surge behavior appears to be low-temperature dependent as it ceases in the summer and re-occurs in the winter.”

NHTSA complaint #10053180, filed 2004-01, 65,000 miles

“While driving my father's 1999 Dodge 250 diesel pickup at any speed between 35 and 65 MPH, the cruise control would not disengage when brakes were applied. Engine raced and attempted to maintain cruise speed. Accident averted by switching off cruise control. Event duplicated many times under safe and controlled conditions. No maintenance performed yet. Dealer contacted but unaware of this failure scenario.”

NHTSA complaint #10125305, filed 2005-06, 71,935 miles

“Vehicle parked. Started vehicle, took it out of park and it lunged forward causing damage to 5th wheel trailer, park bench and truck struck a tree. Caused damage to tie rod, broken pitman arm, front bumper, headlight, possible frame damage as well as damage to 5th wheel trailer. This happened on one previous occasion, about 2 years ago, I can't remember the date. Vehicle accelerated suddenly while braking for a stop light. Vehicle was immediately taken to dealer for inspection, but they found nothing wrong.”

NHTSA complaint #10171545, filed 2006-10, 95,000 miles

“I know I am not the only one that thinks this is a bad problem, in fact I have not met a person that has owned this era of Dodge Ram that has their Dashboard and the whole parts inside can have been falling apart. Mine has fallen and hit my legs and or lap. Now I don’t mean the whole dash at one time but I have glued, taped and put a dash pad over top to try to keep things from falling into the vents and blower motor or anything that is behind and under the top. This is a definite safety problem cause I never know when this will happen and happening more often. …”

NHTSA complaint #11516771, filed 2023-04

“While driving at any speed and with no warning vehicle will start to accelerate. It will be hard for vehicle to decelerate. Dealer notified. Consumer stated that the vehicle does not come with a throttle linkage, but it comes with a computer and sensor switches which operate the throttle. When the sensor switches failed the engine failed too.”
