“Drivers side rear door latch (both on inside and outside)on 1999 Dodge RAM 2500 extended(quad) cab refuses to operate and open rear door. This same problem happened one year and three weeks ago. (13,000 miles ago)this is a design or material defect if the dealer made more than interim repairs during warranty period.”
NHTSA complaint #10013609, filed 2003-03, 13,000 miles“1) the vehicle was being used to tow a 16' flatbed trailer, with the purpose of picking up a load of hay. The trailer was not yet loaded at the time of the incident. 2) the hood of the vehicle flew open while the vehicle was being driven down a state highway, creating the potential for a serious crash. The ring into which the latch hooks came free of the vehicle, causing the failure. 3) to date, the local dealer and Dodge (daimler chrysler) have declined to act on the complaint.”
