“The electronic throttle control (etc) light came on after slowing down and then having to accelerate fast to avoid an oncoming car at an intersection crossing. At the same time the car lost speed and acceleration. We consulted the manual immediately and did what it said, that is to restart the car. We did this and the light went off. To do this we had to pull off the interstate and park and then get back on. When getting back on I had to slow down and again accelerate quickly again to properly merge with oncoming traffic on the 4 lane we were traveling. …”
NHTSA complaint #10560114, filed 2014-01, 354 miles“While accelerating the speedometer would not read any higher than 20 MPH, even when going speeds well over 20 MPH on the interstate. Coming to a complete stop the speedometer would read at 0, however once accelerating or decelerating from over 20 MPH would not be registered. The car was turned on and off several times, and shifted through all the gears, still no fix.”
NHTSA complaint #10567694, filed 2014-03, 6,630 miles“The car is difficult to accelerate and makes a loud hum over 50. It wont shift into reverse. It is confirmed that it is a transmission issue and the whole thing has to be replaced. I found on a mechanic's site that there is an open recall S34 however my VIN is not included despite the fact that my car has the same issue as the recall. The clutch diaphragm spring fails, the driver may not be able to shift gears or the vehicle may lose motive power, increasing the risk of a crash.”
NHTSA complaint #11555448, filed 2023-11“The contact owns a 2013 Fiat 500. The contact stated that while driving 30 MPH, the cruise control failed and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 17.”
NHTSA complaint #10513814, filed 2013-05, 17 miles“The contact owns a 2013 Fiat 500. The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle decelerated independently and intermittently. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnosis but they were unable to duplicate the problem. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 10,000.”
