Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“I received a recall notice in jan 2018 but the Ford dealer has been unable to obtain the parts necessary to make the repair as of 5/8/18. The recall states a fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire so I am very concerned having to drive my automobile. Today I was told they have no idea if/when they will be able to get the parts in.”

NHTSA complaint #11092395, filed 2018-05, 48,000 miles

“My 2012 Ford Escape suddenly loses power when driving. It happened on the highway and I was almost rear ended. I googled the symptoms and found that it is probably the etb electronic throttle body. This is dangerous and NHTSA did not issue a recall or protect the public by requiring Ford to provide towing. Instead NHTSA only required that Ford extend the warranty an additional 10 years leaving Ford owners at risk of injury or worse.”

NHTSA complaint #11278709, filed 2019-11, 47,900 miles

“I was never notified of the recall of my Ford Escape. The vehicle engine caught fire and went thru the dashboard and the car was destroyed. I had been paying a year for this auto and now have to buy another. I called Ford after the fire to complain and that's when I learned of the recall. I lost my car and my personal belongings. I want to be compensated for this loss. The vehicle was parked at the time.”

NHTSA complaint #10933837, filed 2016-12, 41,000 miles

“When driving the car would completely shut off, the check engine light would come on, and I lost control of steering and acceleration. I had to try to get over to the side of the road. The car would usually turn back on. I had to take it back into the Ford dealership 4 times for them to figure out what was wrong with it, as they thought they had fixed it each time.”

NHTSA complaint #10542293, filed 2013-09, 41,000 miles

“Car sometimes acts as if it is between gears when you excelerate. Release the gas pedal and press again and it lurches forward. This has happened several times since I bought the car. I believe the transmission has been reprogramed once shortly after getting the car. Nothing else has been done.”

NHTSA complaint #10763281, filed 2015-09, 34 miles
