“I was driving 65 MPH on the florida turnpike when I heard a loud bang from the back of my 2000 Ford Expedition. I looked in the rearview mirror to see a tires rolling and being tossed down the turnpike with cars trying to dodge the tire. I thought I had just rolled over the tire but when I got home I looked under the truck and noticed the tire was gone and the winch cable was broken. Luckily nobody seemed to get hit by the tire but I can't be sure.”
NHTSA complaint #10350254, filed 2010-08, 110,000 miles“Driving thru a parking lot while going over a speed bump my spare tire fell out from under my Ford 2000 Expedition cable broke on wench. I am now talking with dealer for replacement.I am worried that same thing can happen with new wench possible on freeway.”
NHTSA complaint #10098434, filed 2004-11, 101,500 miles“I had a tire separation while driving 70 MPH. Please see tire recall campaign number below. Tire recall campaign id number 02t012000 I have 5 of these tire on my 2000 Expedition. According to Ford customer relationship, my VIN was not a part of a recall. The tires, however were. Dot numbers were verified with continental. There were 596610 units affected, yet Ford only is showing approximately 500 vehicles with only 300 actualy qualifying. This seems like a game to me as thes five tire were originally on my vehicle.”
NHTSA complaint #10078281, filed 2004-06, 39,000 miles“I have a 2000 Ford Expedition. Last june, just after having the car serviced, I noticed my general grabber tires delaminating and coming apart. I immediately called my local Ford dealer and was told there was no recall on the tires, but to save any receipts when I purchase new tires in the event there is a recall. I replaced the tires and saved the recept. I received a recall notice from Ford later in the year. When I called them they said to bring the vehicle in. I explained that I had replaced the tires. …”
NHTSA complaint #10008184, filed 2003-02, 36,182 miles“The spare tire which is mounted under the body of my 2000 Ford Expedition fell off while I was on an entrance ramp of an expressway. Fortunately, the errant spare tire did not hit the cars behind me. The tire was held by a steel cable that broke. This is a very serious safety issue that needs to be addressed, and not swept under the rug. The local Ford dealership would not fix it without payment. I notified the corp customer service department for Ford. Got the runaround, and was told that they would forward to the engineering dept. I know that this same issue happened to a friend of mine. …”
