“Expedition caught on fire in my mom's driveway about 8:30 p.m. It had been parked for about 3 hours and flames began coming from the vehicle. My moms neighbor that lives in the next block saw the flames and came to tell us that my vehicle was on fire. I called 911. The police department blocked the street for the fire department. The fire department got here and extinguished the flames.”

NHTSA complaint #10491818, filed 2013-01, 178,000 miles

“Well first it was the horn that has been replaced several times and now all of the sudden cruise control doesn't work. I was annoyed about the horn, but now the cruise control... Seems like something is wrong with that horn and cruise control set up.... And I was wondering about the paint because it is also pealing like crazy...”

NHTSA complaint #10396574, filed 2011-04, 150,000 miles

“I have owned a 2000 Ford Expedition for approx. 3 yrs. And on nov. 22, 2017 while my vehicle was sitting in the parking lot at my work(approx. 3hrs) it decided to light itself on fire! I later found out that there had been a recall on the speed control deactivation switch. I have never been notified of this recall and am extremely angry as I have put over $10,000 worth of upgrades to the vehicle. Had I been notified of this recall I would have taken care of it immediately. The recall number is 05v017000 and Ford recall number is 05s28. …”

NHTSA complaint #11051627, filed 2017-11, 193,000 miles

“My 2000 Ford Expedition apparently had a recall for the cruise control switch that could catch fire. In june 2007 my vehicle caught fire while parked and turned off for over 9 hours. We lost the vehicle and the entire house.”

NHTSA complaint #10234807, filed 2008-07, 120,000 miles

“Our 2000 Ford Expedition spontaneously combusted in our driveway after sitting for 2 days. It was determined to be the cruise control switch. I am appalled that congress is so upset at toyota when Ford knows that 11 million vehicles have these faulty cruise control switches and has done nothing to get Ford to take responsibility. Our house was completely destroyed and my wife and 2 dogs escaped with their lives. The same day in a neighboring community another family's house was burned down by a 2001 Expedition with the same problem. …”
