Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Upon driving, my vehicle just started randomly cutting out. I was told that it had to do with the throttle body. I did further research, and I noticed that I haven't been the only Explorer owner that has had this issue, so I'm not sure why there isn't a recall already established. Not only does it put me and my kids at risk, but it also puts drivers around me at risk. My car shuts down, which could cause the drivers behind me to rear end my vehicle. …”

NHTSA complaint #11529873, filed 2023-07, 130,334 miles

“While driving in wet conditions with the automatic cruise control enabled the vehicle pulls to the sides. Fords response is that the brand new winter tires are causing the slipping.”

NHTSA complaint #11374648, filed 2020-11, 99,000 miles

“I am unsure of when it first occurred, but before it finally stopped notifying me of a possible front end collision, I had noticed that it would begin to randomly notify me of a collision warning from the front end when there was nothing in front of me or near me. Then one day it just stopped notifying me all together. I checked all fuses and they are all working properly. That I can remember, it has now been more than 4 months now. Once it completely stopped, everytime I start my car, I get a notification on my dashboard stating collision forward collisiin warning not working.”

NHTSA complaint #11662897, filed 2025-05

“I was driving and my power steering failed. The following messades appeared on my dash: Terrain Management System Fault Service AdvanceTrac Hill Assist Fault Electric Power Steering Failure. I was able to turn off the car and turn it back on again and the messages went away and my power steering worked again. A few days later, same issue occurred and the power steering never came back. Very hard to turn currebtly. I did some research and found that Ford had issued a recall for the same issue in previous years for the Explorer. …”

NHTSA complaint #11445929, filed 2022-01

“Back up camera is intermittent like the other Ford models effected by other recalls. Adaptive Cruise Control and front collision warning system out of calibration, senses buildings and other obstacles on the left intermittently. Cruise control comes on but is not working. No accidents because of this defect.”
