“Vehicle experienced difficulty with the front passenger side seat belt. Each time the brake was applied to turn the corner or hitting a bump in the road the safety belt will tighten. Owner took the vehicle to the dealer and manufacturer, and was told that there was nothing they could do. Consumer stated that the seat belt locked up so tight that it hurt his chest and neck. It would not release until the seat belt was unbuckled. The consumer had to let it retract all the way back, then rebuckle it.”
NHTSA complaint #10115411, filed 2005-05, 6,000 miles“The contact owns a 2004 Ford f250 super duty. The contact was driving approximately 50 MPH and encountered black ice on a slight incline. The vehicle skidded out of control and began to roll over. The front passenger seat belt completely detached and the passenger was ejected from the vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. The driver suffered whiplash. The front seat passenger was transported to the hospital and was hospitalized for four months. The injuries sustained consisted of three broken ribs, bruised jaw, shattered heart, and ten stitches in the right temple. …”
