Example complaints

Electrical system: “Shortly after purchase, my 2025 Ford Maverick Hybrid AWD experienced a sudden and severe electrical burning or melting odor while driving at freeway speed (approximately 75 mph). The odor was extremely strong and clearly coming from my vehicle. At the same time, the vehicle produced a loud, continuous whirring or growling noise and experienced a sudden loss of power, as if under heavy load or braking. I exited the freeway as soon as safely possible. …”

NHTSA complaint #11705804, filed 2025-12

Brakes: “I bought the vehicle new and after 15,000 miles my electric brake booster is making a noise when I depress the brake pedal. I am concerned the internal mechanism will fail and I will lose the brake booster. The dealer is dismissing it as a normal noise. I have a few friends that have had the same issue and their dealers replaced the electric brake booster and the problem went away.”

NHTSA complaint #11756013, filed 2026-08

Other or unknown: “While moving 60 mph, my curious toddler (fortunately from the safety of a 5 point harness car seat) decided to try to open the rear passenger door & was alarmingly successful in doing so. We pulled over & engaged the child safety lock on that door so it wouldn't happen again but made a point to test the feature as we accelerated to 60 mph again. While all the locks engaged right after we started moving again, the front passenger door automatically unlocked when my spouse tried the door handle. …”

NHTSA complaint #11669900, filed 2025-06

Engine: “Vehicle required replacement of exhaust heat exchanger due to check engine light. Vehicle sat at dealer for 67 days awaiting parts due to national back order because of high failure rate.”
