“Excessive acceleration. I was going up a hill in dc traffic and could not stop accelerating. I had to put the emergency brakes on and turn the car off. Hrottle positoin sensor went out. I sent the car to the Ford dealership. My extented warranty did not cover that b/c they said it was a fuel system problem not a emission problem.”

“I am a owner of a 2001 Ford Taurus which I bought used and have owned it now for 2 years. It is the first Ford I have owned in over 20 years. Since I have owned it, it has not given me too many problems, just the basic break downs like, batteries, brakes ,seized A/C compressor, coolant expansion tank cracked, ect. Those things are going to break. But what has really upset me is how I have read about the coil springs breaking on the Taurus and causing possible damage to the vehicle. …”

“Drove home from work. Was inside my home about 10 minutes. Heard a loud noise went out side and my car was on fire. Fire men put it out and said it probably started up in the dash area.”

NHTSA complaint #10242174, filed 2008-09, 160,000 miles

“Approximately 1 year ago, I was having mechanic problems with my 2001 Ford Taurus. The engine light came on. I had it inspected by a mechanic. The EGR valve and EGR sensor was replaced. About two weeks ago, the engine light came back on. I was not able to have it checked by a mechanic again. About a week ago, I noticed that when I started the engine, there was an instantaneous smell of exhaust in the passenger compartment. The windows were all in the closed position. I was required to drive with my windows down for a few days until I could have it looked at by a mechanic. …”

“On june 4th, I was travelling on I-95 south bound (new jersey turnpike) when all of a sudden my 2001 Ford Taurus lost power, and stalled out. I immediately pulled over to the shoulder. I took it to an independent mechanic who advised that the engine head gasket may be the cause. After taking it to the dealer they advised that this is not covered, since the warranty has expired. I only have 33,000 miles on the vehicle, and this should nevere happen to any Ford product, especially with 33,000 miles. …”
