Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“It was april 2016 when my car started running erratically (lose power, add power) and I instantly took it in. It was diagnosed with rusty plugs and coil; replaced for $845 and at 33,310 miles. Next time I drove it, rough, and high then low power. It drove itself, surging at a high rate of speed, then stalling. Very scary. The dealer's diagnosis? The windshield washer nozzle gaskets had not been installed, so they leaked downhill onto the engine. Apparently, Ford knew or came to know this was a problem with many tcs, but they chose not to inform buyers. The gaskets cost $69.50. …”

NHTSA complaint #10947648, filed 2017-01, 33,402 miles

“After placing vehicle in Park, vehicle rolled away and destroyed my mailbox. Luckily I was able to stop it inches away from neighbors car. There is a recall for other years, but none for this year. The vehicle has not been inspected by a dealer yet, however, after talking to the dealership service department, it is a common problem and would cost a lot to repair”

NHTSA complaint #11649597, filed 2025-03

“The vehicle was parked in a security enclosure by early evening on saturday sept. 29. At approximately 1:30 am on sunday morning, a neighbor living adjacent to our office facility called 911 reporting that the vehicle was on fire. Sacramento metro fire responded and put out the flames. A fire investigator was called out to look at the scene. It was the investigator,s opinion that the fire was not arson related as there were 3 other company vehicles parked in very close proximity and were not themselves damaged by separate incidents of fire. No forensic investigation was pursued.”

NHTSA complaint #10488141, filed 2012-12, 12,750 miles

“The contact owns a 2010 Ford Transit Connect. The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH, the accelerator failed to respond to acceleration attempts and the vehicle stalled without any warnings. The contact also mentioned that the temperature gauge indicated that the engine was overheating. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where the mechanic stated that the windshield gasket and three coils needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 21,000.”
