“Shift to park known issue has started. I've had the car for 1 yr. 5 months. I know there are lawsuits on this issue. Continuous issue and getting worse. This needs to be taken care of by GM. It is epidemic in their acadias. Stationary and putting it into park. It doesn't recognize it's in park! It's been occurring off and on over a week, not today, every time I try to turn off the vehicle.”

NHTSA complaint #11329979, filed 2020-06, 49,300 miles

“I have received the 'shift to park' error message on the dash when the car is already in park. One time with the car off, the error message on, the car started to roll despite it being in park. I had to restart the car, shift the shifter down then back to park back down and back to park before the car would recognize the shifter was in park. Each time this happened when I was in a parking spot and in my garage.”

NHTSA complaint #11323053, filed 2020-05, 36,000 miles

“The second row seats get stuck from time to time when attempting to fold them down. We have also been having issues with the shift gear when trying to place it in park. When the car is placed in park and we try to turn it off, the car will refuse to shut off and will ding until finally the car registers that the shift gear is in park. I have to turn on and off the car multiple times, and even wiggle the gear multiple times before the system finally recognizes that the car is in park.”

NHTSA complaint #11349232, filed 2020-08, 24,000 miles

“First of all, this issue is being reported by hundreds if not thousands of Gmc Acadia owners. I received the shift to park message months ago while it still was under the 36,000 mile warranty and then it went away until last week. I got a shift to park message when I turned the vehicle off even though the gear was in the shift position. This caused a number of secondary issues that are now compromising the safety of the vehicle. Once I am able to turn the vehicle back on after it drains or kills the electrical system, I am getting a number of issues. …”

NHTSA complaint #11252624, filed 2019-08, 32,000 miles

“The vehicle was stationary and did not allow me to turn the power off. Shift to park message would not go away even though the vehicle was clearly in park. I had to try 10-15 times to put the vehicle in other gears and park again and turning on and off until it eventually turned off. This has happened several times and if I just leave it with the message there the car eventually drains my battery. It has been happening for a week during several different occasions and am concerned it could drive away on its own if it happens again and I can't get the message to turn off. …”
