“The contact owns a 2021 GMC Sierra 2500. The contact stated while driving approximately 25–35 MPH, the tailgate unlatched and opened unexpectedly. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the tailgate opened independently. The contact stated that the tailgate down message was displayed after the failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic at a body shop, who determined that the failure was due to the touchpad. The vehicle was repaired. The vehicle was taken to a body shop, where it was replaced. …”

The contact stated that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V060000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages) and the main exterior touchpad switch assembly was replaced. The contact stated that after the recall repair the second exterior touchpad switch assembly suddenly short circuited and caused the trunk to open unintendedly. The vehicle was returned to the dealer who stated that that only one exterior touchpad switch assembly was replaced, despite the remedy stating that the exterior touchpad switch assemblies would be replaced. …”
