Example complaints

Body and structure: “My dashboard from the passenger side to the drivers side including the area over the gauges is cracked and some sections fell in under the dash, leaving a hole. My concern is if the airbag deploys, the dashboard will turn into shrapnel and seriously injure or kill the occupants.”

NHTSA complaint #10939868, filed 2017-01, 65,000 miles

Other or unknown: “Dashboard cracked near passenger side airbag. This occurred while vehicle was parked. Since the crack occurred, the dash now shakes as though it is unsupported in the center while driving (even on only minimally bumpy roads). The vehicle was brought to the dealer while still under a bumper-to-bumper GM certified warranty. The dealer reported that this would not be covered fully under warranty (despite this being a known manufacturing defect) and told me I would have to pay $500 out of pocket to have the dash replaced. …”

NHTSA complaint #10984976, filed 2017-05, 75,000 miles

Air bags: “Crack in dash in front of steering wheel. May effect safety of airbags were to deploy. The vehicle was stationary. The crack appeared without any force or trauma to the area.”

NHTSA complaint #10837589, filed 2016-02, 54,000 miles

Brakes: “The contact owns a 2013 Gmc Yukon Xl. While the vehicle was parked with the ignition off, the contact heard an abnormally loud pop emit from the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle then began to roll and crashed into a brick wall. The contact stated that the failure occurred previously, but she was able to get back in the vehicle and stop it before it began to roll. The contact stated that there was damage to the front end and rear of the vehicle due to the impact of the trailer that was hitched to the rear of the vehicle. The contact stated that the air bags failed to deploy. …”
