“Dashboard cracked near passenger side airbag. This occurred while vehicle was parked. Since the crack occurred, the dash now shakes as though it is unsupported in the center while driving (even on only minimally bumpy roads). The vehicle was brought to the dealer while still under a bumper-to-bumper GM certified warranty. The dealer reported that this would not be covered fully under warranty (despite this being a known manufacturing defect) and told me I would have to pay $500 out of pocket to have the dash replaced. …”
NHTSA complaint #10984976, filed 2017-05, 75,000 miles“The dashboard around the airbag and steering/instrument cluster has severely cracked and broken. This is a safety hazard in the event of an accident the dashboard pieces become shards of shrapnel propelled by the airbag and/or impact of the crash. There have been no wrecks, modifications, or any other actions that would cause this damage - it is the result of faulty production.”
NHTSA complaint #11053450, filed 2017-12, 67,000 miles“Crack in dash in front of steering wheel. May effect safety of airbags were to deploy. The vehicle was stationary. The crack appeared without any force or trauma to the area.”
