“The windshield on my 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid touring cracked spontaneously while it was being backed out of a downtown parking space. It has fewer than 7,500 miles on it. I'm told there is a 4 to 8 month backorder for an oem replacement - the only kind that Honda will accept if I'm to maintain their warranty.”
NHTSA complaint #11210348, filed 2019-05, 7,100 miles“I don't know if my previous report went through, so this is a second attempt! Within a week of getting the brand new vehicle we noticed a severe windshield problem! When we turned into the setting sun, the passengers side of the windshield looked like shattered glass! It severely hampered vision to that side. When we turned the other direction, it looked normal! It happened again, under the same conditions. We brought it to the dealership today. The head of the service department said he had never seen anything like it in 30 + years! He could see the problem with a flashlight! …”
NHTSA complaint #11098446, filed 2018-05, 100 miles“In less than 5,000 miles I've had 2 cracked windshields that show no sign of pebble or stone impact and cracked while the car was not being driven. Both cracks started in approx. The same place of the left and right side pillars. Each instance costs approx. $1400 to replace the windshield (includes camera recal). You can find numerous instances on the internet of basically the same thing happening to other accord (and hybrids) owners. This is a safety issue because it could affect the safety systems mounted in the windshield. …”
