My son pressed the brake pedal to slow down approaching the intersection but it suddenly accelerated, crossed the intersection and hit the tree across the street. 2. Even pressing the brake pedal, car accelerated it self and could not stop the car on time to avoid hitting the tree. Luckily, there were no death or personal injuries. 3. Car had extensive frontal and engine damage and can not be repaired.”

“I think there is a problem with the brakes on my 1999 Honda Civic. Under heavey braking the rear wheels lock up while the front does not. This has happened about 5 times since I bought the car new. When it happens the rear end of the car fishtails wildly and does cause the car to into an uncontrolable spin. I had mentioned this to the dealer who had said it is normal because of weight transfer to the front under heavy braking. …”

“I marcie beebe was traveling down lee summit road, northbound, at 35 MPH. I was traveling down a hill and approaching a corner, when I applied my brakes. At that point, my brakes locked up and I was not able to steer the car after that point. I cross into the southbound lane striking a car and into a ditch where my car was stopped by a street sign. I noticed my car was not running were there any lights on indicating my car was still had power. I detect my brakes locked up and this is why I lost ability to steer, causing this misfortunate accident. Dt”

NHTSA complaint #769042, filed 2002-10

“I was traveling at less than 15 miles per hour. The traffic was coming to a stop. When I applied the brakes in order to stop, they did not work. I began pumping them, but that did not work right away. After a few times, the brakes finally worked, but it was too late. I was already about to rear end the car in front of me. This happened 2 weeks before when a relative borrowed the car. He almost had to use the emergency brake, but they worked after he pumped them. Honda does not care. They had the brakes tested and said they were fine. I don't care about a huge law suit. …”

NHTSA complaint #744765, filed 2001-04

“The contact stated the brake pedal fractured at a welded connection. Prior to the pedal fracturing, the pedal felt loose. The contact's foot kept slipping off the pedal. The brake pedal has been replaced.”
