“I bought my 2006 Honda Civic in 2008 with 61000 miles on it. At 81000 miles the engine block has cracked. I went online and found numerous complaints about this problem and a service bulletin at Honda recognizing this problem. I took my car to Honda and am now being told it is my problem and they will not help to repair it. The cost is over 4000.00.”

NHTSA complaint #10259993, filed 2009-02, 81,000 miles

“The bolt that holds the serpentine belt tension idler pulley has failed twice on my vehicle. It's a fatigue failure from bolt bending load; a design failure. I have been fortunate that both failures occurred at low speeds on side streets. If this occurred at speed where I could not pull over immediately, I could have been in severe danger with loss of power, engine seizing and a possible fire.”

NHTSA complaint #10373794, filed 2011-01, 63,000 miles

“My Honda Civic ex 2006 model suddenly started overheating problem, I realized this after my recent oil change at Honda round rock texas. I believe this is a serious safety issue to myself and my family. There was small bit of blue fluid leak that I could see but at times ignored, this I saw after recent oil change.”

NHTSA complaint #10352582, filed 2010-08, 70,000 miles

“2006 Honda Civic engine cracked from overheating only 42000 miles. The dealer says it was from my neglect-however I followed their guide book. I can't believe that Honda would treat a loyal customer this way just to save a buck. From doing research it seems to be a common problem. Who will stand up for the consumer.”

NHTSA complaint #10275938, filed 2009-07, 42,000 miles

“I backed up my car and liquid was leaking out at a fast rate. I immediately took my car to breakaway Honda. They called and said my engine block was cracked. This is a 2006 car! I researched and found that this has happened to a large number of this make and model. I had to pay $881 and do not feel I should have had to pay anything. The car should have been recalled.”
