“I purchased my car from a Honda dealership back in 2014 and am the second owner. I was never told about the chance of the block cracking or that Honda will only warranty it till 10 years past original purchase because if I was told that I would have never got the car knowing that info. The car has only 160,000 miles and I get regular oil changes done at the Honda dealership.”
NHTSA complaint #11235380, filed 2019-07, 160,000 miles“The engine block cracked (according to dealer) exactly like as described in service bulletin 10-048 which they extended the warranty for, but which a bunch of us owners are outside of now. So my car is garbage unless I spend 2-7k fixing a manufacturing defect that should have been recalled. I started overheating as I was driving home as and limped home trying to not let the engine get too hot (didn't work).”
NHTSA complaint #11164190, filed 2018-12, 161,000 miles“I was driving on the freeway and heard a clicking noise. By the time I pulled off the freeway the oil light was on. My car then died and soon found the car had overheated. I took it to Honda and they said it is probably a cracked engine block but were unable to investigate further because it had been more than 8 years since the extended warranty was offered for this problem.”
NHTSA complaint #10871363, filed 2016-05, 149,600 miles“I started my vehicle during the night and cold weather drove my car less than five minutes when the inside started smelling like anti coolant. I pulled over to check fluid and noticed the block had a crack in it I have noticed there is a problem in this model of car but it's for ten years of purchase and I never got a letter stating I could get this check earlier I need help”
NHTSA complaint #10935938, filed 2016-12, 2 miles“Car began overheating while driving. Upon further inspection a hairline crack was visibly leaking coolant on the engine block. Dealership has informed me that it is the crack from TSB 10-048 but will not cover said issue because the car is out of the warranty time limit . As a side note, being the third owner of the vehicle I was never notified of the extended warranty/ issue.”
