“Well maintained and cared for 2008 Civic. Took it to local Honda dealer for maintenance and was told it had a cracked engine block. Told me I was out of the 10 year warranty. I've never had anyone tell me this was a problem. Technician said I was lucky to have made it to the dealer. No alerts no warning. Why was this not recalled?”
NHTSA complaint #11328665, filed 2020-06, 109,000 miles“The block cracked causing a antifreeze leak. Honda extended the warranty on 08 civics an extra 10 years from original warranty which would allow my Civic to still be under warranty. I contacted Honda and they told me the warranty only pertained to first owners. I suspect my problem occurred on wednesday 4/21/2021 as I was driving home from work. It has never overheated since I have owned it.”
NHTSA complaint #11413626, filed 2021-04, 110,800 miles“Engine block cracked; Honda won't make good even though they extended warranty to 2018! Never notified us; we had towed to our mechanic and had to pay out of pocket over $3100. So far. Was told it would have been done free if we towed to hond dealer/service dept. Who knew. Of course we would have had we known. Do they think we wanted to pay$ 3100????”
NHTSA complaint #10914017, filed 2016-10, 118,000 miles“While driving down the road smoke began coming from underneath the hood and I noticed the car was starting to overheat. I pulled over into a local bank parking lot and opened the hood to inspect the problem and it was a crack in the engine block that the coolant was seeping out of. Tsb 10-048”
NHTSA complaint #11176350, filed 2019-02, 133,230 miles“Well Honda had a engine block recall that I wasent aware 10-048 of and now my engine block cracked while my wife was driving it coolant leaked all over the place and now Honda says they wont fix the problem because I was over the warranty that I was not aware of when I bought the car .”
