Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Dueler h/t 684 bridgestone tire on right rear of my Honda crv 03, tread separated while driving off exit ramp on freeway. There was no warning. Tire pressure had been checked less than two weeks before. There was plenty of tread left on tire. The tire just fell apart while I was driving. Honda dealer referred me to firestone dealer who referred me to a corporate firestone dealer who gave me a claim number to call. I expect if I call they will prorate the tire and sell me another to put on the car. …”

NHTSA complaint #10127358, filed 2005-07, 34,000 miles

“Vibration at speeds of approximately 42, 62 and 72 MPH, especially when road is curving to the left, that makes the entire vehicle vibrate, so that it is undrivable. Capitol Honda replaced tires with other tires and vibration was not found. When original tires reinstalled, vibration returns. Honda dealer believes that the imbalance is in the tires. Have taken tires back to america's tire twice for re-balance and they have added weights each time, by about 1/2 oz.”

NHTSA complaint #10214607, filed 2008-01, 60,449 miles

“The steering wheel started shaking while driving 55 MPH. The consumer pulled to side of road and stopped, he checked all the tires and the noticed left rear tire had blown out and was shredded. The steel belt inside of tire was wrapped around the tire. The vehicle was towed to schwabs, and all tires were replaced.”

NHTSA complaint #10037713, filed 2003-09, 1,000 miles

“Complete tire failure. While travelling at highway speed noticed tire vibration. Within 10 seconds of hearing the noise the tire completely failed-- the tire was in 3 peices: the two sidewalls were hanging on the rim and the entire tread area was separated from them (the tread area remained in one solid piece). The tires were original equipment on the car, which is only7 months old. The mileage on them was 10000.”

NHTSA complaint #10058846, filed 2004-02, 10,600 miles

“The original tires showed signs of excessive wear. Vehicle was bought on may 2003, and four tires needed to be replaced with only 13,140 miles on them. Dealership rotated twice the four tires. Bridgestone, dueler. Size unknown, DOT# unknown. .”
