“While on the interstate coming from myrtle beach the windscreen was cracked on the Element I purchased about 3 weeks before the trip. I did not see a rock hit , I assumed that is what happened until I started reading the forum on the Element owners club about similar situations that has happened to other Element owners. The fix was $330 out of pocket to replace the windscreen.”
NHTSA complaint #10234377, filed 2008-07, 52,000 miles“I was driving on the parkway with no one in front of me, heard a pop and a 5 crack appeared on my windshield(drivers side). The crack has grown an additional 3-4 inches in the past week. There is no evidence of road or rock debris having hit it. The dealership refused warranty coverage although a service bulletin was issued for this problem.”
NHTSA complaint #10091097, filed 2004-11, 8,200 miles“Windshield cracked (in 2 separate places!?!) with no apparent rock chip or damage. I have owned the car less than 6 months when this happens. Apparently a defect that many others have complained about. No cooperation from the dealership I purchased at. Won't make my next car a Honda because of thier failure to acknowledge the problem.”
NHTSA complaint #10080777, filed 2004-07, 18,000 miles“I never heard anything actually hit my windshield. I did hear the crack, which begins at the bottom of the passenger side under the wiper. The crack moves upwards about 4 inches and over towards the driver side another 5-6 inches. I have opened a case with american Honda customer service trying to have it replaced under warranty since I understand this is a recurring problem with elements.”
NHTSA complaint #10102341, filed 2004-12, 350 miles“Crack appeared in my windshield of my 2004 Element less then a month after taking delivery. On drivers side under windshield wipers. Came up from dashboard. Had been driving in the snow on snow covered road. Windshield replaced. New crack appeared march 9th 2004 while parked in parking lot at mall. Day was cold. Crack on windshield on drivers side coming out half way up the pillar on side. Waiting on dealer to replace.”
