“In extreme cold weather the brake pedal is rock hard and will not budge. After warming it up it will work, but intermittently, it will happen while driving. I will go to push the brake pedal and it won't budge and the car keeps going. I nearly crashed the other day. It has happened more than once. It's a very dangerous situation and if anyone were walking in front of my car during the episode, they would be killed. The other day I was able to swerve toward a guard rail instead of hitting the car in front of me. …”
NHTSA complaint #11064219, filed 2018-01, 66,000 miles“The contact owns a 2012 Honda FIT. While driving 40 MPH, the brakes failed and the contact rear ended the preceding vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained left leg injuries that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a collision lot where it was repaired for the damage. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16v061000 (air bags). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 64,970.”
