“I have owned this car 2 weeks. I parked the FIT in front of the garage, left the engine running and set the handbrake. I got out to open the door. I was 6 feet from the car when I heard a metallic pop. I turned to see it rolling backwards down the drive. I ran to it but could not stop it. It was slowed by a mound of dirt and stopped by a small tree. I am very sure my thumb was not on the lever button. I worked the lever many times and can detect no unusual sound or feel.”

“Vehicle would not shift out of park. This would occur randomly and became increasing more difficult. Override had to be used several times. When we reported this to the dealer, first question was do the brake lights work? Dealer replaced brake switch p/n 36750-ty0-j11 as a repair attempt. Service noted the technician felt this was the problem and to let them know if it recurs. To-date (3 days after repair - ok at this time. 1st occurrence took 4.6k). Question; does Honda have a brake light switch issue? Note: I was surprised that the dealer had the part in stock for such a new vehicle.”

NHTSA complaint #10689593, filed 2015-02, 4,867 miles

“Unintended and sudden acceleration. November 2015 the car was making a right hand turn into a parking space, while pressing the brake the car suddenly accelerated the brakes did not work, the car traveled about 70 feet before stopping. Took it to tom wood Honda all they checked was the brakes and said it was fine. Update: february 2016 making a right hand turn into a parking space at a panera bread gently tapped the brakes the car accelerated and went thru the door at panera bread. Tom wood Honda checked the brakes says its fine and released it to the collision center. …”

“There is a very loud clunking or loud clicking sound coming from the front right brakes. I took the vehicle to the dealership to be looked at 4 times and the final determination was it was a brake clicking which the service advisor described as normal. The noise is so loud specially when cold it feels like something is going to break at some point. He said the manufacturer did this on purpose to keep the brakes from overheating. I have done some research and it has happened to many other Honda owners as well. …”

NHTSA complaint #11530185, filed 2023-07

“The contact owns a 2015 Honda FIT. While driving approximately 35 MPH, the vehicle accelerated unintentionally. In addition, the contact stated that the brakes failed to respond when the pedal was depressed. The contact was able to avoid a crash after the vehicle stopped abruptly. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician informed the contact that the vehicle was functioning as designed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 373.”
