“The brakes are way too soft! I almost hit a kid in my neighborhood when I could not stop as quickly as I should have going 30mph. I have to push the brakes all the way to the floor it is insane. I have had the brakes bled, new pads put in, new calipers put in and no fix has worked.”

NHTSA complaint #10795190, filed 2015-11, 120,000 miles

“The brake pedal pushes almost to the floor before the van responds to braking. I have had multiple procedures done on the brakes by several mechanics and it has not fixed the problem. I usually pump the brakes when I am stopping because I don't have confidence in the braking system and by doing this, the braking system responds better. It happens at all speeds. I purchased this van used in 2008 and I noticed the mushy brakes at the time of purchase and was told that the brakes were fine. The dealer said hondas' brakes are known to be mushy. …”

NHTSA complaint #10610044, filed 2014-07, 60,514 miles

“While applying pressure on the brake pedal to reduce the speed because the traffic was slowing down vehicle in front of me stopped abruptly. I applied more and more pressure on the brakes, and nothing happened. Vehicle was not stopping any faster. I did not pump the brakes since Odyssey has ABS and they did not kick in though I applied a lot of pressure on the brakes. I collided with the vehicle in front of me and airbags did not deploy. Prior to this incident I was able to stop the car faster.”

NHTSA complaint #10093212, filed 2004-09, 3,000 miles

“The brake warning lamp can illuminate, indicating a low brake fluid condition, although no leaking brake fluid is visible throughout the system. A worn rear master cylinder seal can cause fluid to leak into the brake booster, which will cause diminished brake performance over time. There is already a recall issued for this same issue on 2005-2007 odysseys, but I believe it also applies to 2004 odysseys.”

NHTSA complaint #10762091, filed 2015-09, 163,000 miles

“Braking is soft or brake pedal has to be pushed very low before brakes will engage. I have had this problem for about 2 years and had the brakes checked numerous times and no one can fix it.”
