“The brakes acted as a term stated soft brake pedal. The brakes should have stopped the vehicle in a shorter distance than they actually did. From a speed of approximately 50 MPH it took about 150 ft to stop and it still required hitting the car infront of me to stop at about 5 MPH. I felt the ABS kick in but for pushing the pedal as hard as I could the wheels did not even squeal or chirp. It felt like the vehicle was just coming to a slow stop.”

NHTSA complaint #10806767, filed 2015-11, 101,000 miles

“My 2006 Honda Odyssey has a soft spongy brake pedal, often going lower than the accelerator while braking, allowing the brake and accelerator to be depressed at the same time, making it difficult to brake while the engine is racing. This problem causes the Odyssey to lurch forward, and could quite easily cause an accident. My dealer refuses to acknowledge the problem.”

NHTSA complaint #10308623, filed 2010-02, 20,000 miles

“My Honda Odyssey had braking problem since we bought it brand new in 2006. It is hard to brake especially when it runs to downhill road. It also gives a noise when I brakes. I took my minivan to Honda dealers a few times and they told me they could not find any brake problems. But it is still there.”

NHTSA complaint #10320361, filed 2010-03, 20,000 miles

“Tried to stop at an intersection with a stop going 25 miles early on. The car would not stop on time and brake will terminate it distance before the actual car stopped. It has soft brakes from the beginning but now it is getting worse and the brake do not work properly. We were lucky because no other car were around as we stopped 10 feet in the intersection. Is there any recall for sponge brakes for Odyssey 2006?”

NHTSA complaint #10300031, filed 2010-01, 30,100 miles

“My 2006 Honda Odyssey has a problem with the brake feeling 'soft'. I have to press the brake almost to the floor to stop the car. This is similar to the recall for the same model from 2007 to 2008. However, dealership will not fix this issue because our car is from 2006 model year.”
