“I have a 2006 Honda Odyssey mini van. Since feb 2009, the power steering assisting system failed to work at low speed. It's hard to operate the steering wheel at this moment. Most time it happened when I try to make a turn in park lot or local road. This problem also happened when I divert from high way to the ramp. This could be a safety issue.”
NHTSA complaint #10262147, filed 2009-03, 37,500 miles“2006 Honda Odyssey, whining noise coming from power steering pump, and there is TSB 07-005 for this case, since car is out of warranty dealer is asking me to pay for the inspection. I called Honda of america, and complained about this issue, but there is no guarantee Honda of america will reimbursed or pay for the repair.”
NHTSA complaint #10335091, filed 2010-06, 35,000 miles“Appears that there is an o ring issue on this year Honda Odyssey. Air is getting in the power steering pump/lines causing a whining during turns and acceleration. This is an issue that warrants a TSB to the mechanics and service industry, however, Honda has yet to announce a recall or offer assistance in the matter. This is our second Honda...we drove an accord to 246k miles and are big Honda fans. Hate that there is a known issue and no recall.”
NHTSA complaint #10553907, filed 2013-11, 114,000 miles“My Honda Odyssey has a manufacturers defect associated with the power steering system. It has an inconsistent buzz, whine, hum that can be heard predominantly at lower speeds. At times, the steering becomes tight making it difficult to steer the car. I have read about the service bulletins: TSB 2007 for the steering reservoir, and TSB 2010 for the steering pump. I will be calling the local dealer with hopes of correcting a poor design by Honda.”
NHTSA complaint #10436547, filed 2011-11, 40,000 miles“At low speeds, the power steering pump on my 2006 Honda Odyssey ex-l looses all ability to turn. This is especially troublesome when trying to park. The only way to alleviate this is to put the transmission in neutral, apply a foot to the brake, and apply slight pressure to the throttle pedal. This obviously speeds up the power steering pump which allows me to turn the steering wheel. This is not a safe solution to perform for any reason.”
