Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“I was driving in motion in a neighborhood and the engine cut off and could barely pull over cause the steering locked up. Before that, I was leaving a gas station and again the engine shut off while in motion.”

NHTSA complaint #10864157, filed 2016-05, 195,000 miles

“Our van has 79,000 miles. Engine light came on 3 weeks ago to replace a pressure switch on the transmission. 2 days after replacement, engine light came on again, dealer tells us that whole transmission needs replacement. Total cost $6000. Called american Honda who acknowledged they'd issued a warranty extension up to 100,000 miles but limited to 7 years after complaints LED to realization that transmission had problem. Despite our mileage being low, Honda refuses to help on these repairs. …”

NHTSA complaint #10489367, filed 2012-12, 79,500 miles

“Using the vehicle daily under normal city driving conditions around a small town noise was heard emanating from the front suspension. Inspection of the equipment found both front coil springs broken and the upper turning bearings damaged due to the coil spring fractures. The usage of the vehicle as a grocery getter does explain a possible cause for the failure and the only possible explanation is a defect in the material. No injuries occurred. Both front coil/strut assemblies along with the stabilizer links need to be replaced at my cost.”

NHTSA complaint #10265724, filed 2009-04, 52,423 miles

“While driving at approximately 10-15mph, the right front tie rod broke. Owner lost control of vehicle. Manage to stop vehicle and check tire, which was at a 45 degree angle. Dealer has been contacted.”
