“Stop lamp switch malfunction. Apparently this is/was a problem on many Hyundai cars from 2007 because they issued a recall on over half a million cars. My specific car (VIN number) was not included; however my stop lamp switch did malfunction. I feel like I should have been part of that recall.”

NHTSA complaint #10469291, filed 2012-08, 77,000 miles

“Gentleman pulls up beside me at a stoplight and says, I don't have any brake lights. I check them and sure enough, no brake lights. I called Hyundai and they say my VIN does not have any recalls. I did see a recall on 2007 accents online. Want to know why mine isn't on the list. I'm sure they must be using the same parts. I'd like to know how something like this can go bad like the others did and not be recalled.”

NHTSA complaint #10459895, filed 2012-05, 63,360 miles

“The brake light went out in my car it was made 06/06 and there is a recall for the same problem but there saying my car isn't covered under this recall. The should look into expanding the recall to other cars.”

NHTSA complaint #10486494, filed 2012-11, 70,000 miles

“Hello, I own a 2007 Hyundai Accent and I happened to be driving on the queensway and a lady pulled up beside me and told me that I had no rear brake lights. I brought my car back home and I conducted a search to see if there were any recalls for my vehicle with the issue that I am having. There was indeed a recall about the rear brake lamp switch. I contacted my local Hyundai dealer and they said that yes there was a recall. …”

NHTSA complaint #10402354, filed 2011-05

“The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Accent. The contact stated that the brake lights were inoperable. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the stop lamp switch failed. The dealer advised the contact of NHTSA campaign id number: 09v280000 (exterior lighting), but the vehicle was not included. The failure and current mileages were 78,000.”
