“The driver's seat belt unbuckles randomly while driving. This issue seems to be more prevalent depending on the seat position and dimensions of the driver. For me, a woman who uses the back of the seat in a more upright position, it seems to happen more often than for my husband, who uses the seat more reclined. Nevertheless, it has happened to him as well.”

“Driving on city & highway, driver side selt belt will release itself multiple times. On a daily drive to work 12 miles at least 2-3 times! I can be at a stop and literally wiggle it loose and releases. I have researched it online through multiple platforms there's over a 100+ hyundai owners with the same problem. Please look into this issue! I have 3 children 1 is gonna start driving soon. (2014 hyundai accent) Thank you!”

NHTSA complaint #11623903, filed 2024-11

“The seatbelt unbuckles on its own when driving. It is happening each time my husband or I drive the vehicle. I’m concerned that the seatbelt will unbuckle in case of a collision. I’ve been looking online, and the 2014 Hyundai Accent does not have any reported issues with the seatbelt that I can find. I have not yet taken the vehicle for inspection, but I’m not sure what to do next. No lamps are lighting up to indicate this problem. It just happens randomly at any speed.”

NHTSA complaint #11484545, filed 2022-09

“The contact owned a 2014 Hyundai Accent. The contact stated while driving 45 mph, another vehicle intersected her lane, causing her to steer to the right and crashed into another vehicle. No air bags were deployed and the front driver-side seat belt failed to retract, causing her to hit her right knee with the dashboard and her chest on the steering wheel. The contact was unable to lift her legs or hip and was taken to the emergency room where by ambulance and sought medical attention. The contact stated the other driver sustained unknown injuries and also sought medical attention. …”
