“The air bag light came on in my 2007 Hyundai Elantra. When I took it to the dealership, they said that there was some kind of electrical failure in the driver's side buckle assembly. I have heard of similar issues in 2006-2008 sonatas. I am concerned that this may be a factory defect.”

NHTSA complaint #10680130, filed 2015-01, 119,000 miles

“Seat belt light came on around 137k mike's. Took to get tested at dealership. Said bad seat buckles on drivers and passenger sides. 147 to test it and 500 to fix. Found out the previous owner already replaced buckles 5 years ago. Called Hyundai directly and they said they can't do anything about it even though there are hundreds of similar reports online.”

NHTSA complaint #11222759, filed 2019-06, 137,000 miles

“Ran into the rear end of a stopped vehicle at or about 25mph - straight. The airbags did not deploy and the seatbelt stop did not engage causing driver's chest to hit the steering wheel.”

NHTSA complaint #11061329, filed 2018-01, 128,000 miles

“Pass seat belt sticks. Passenger side seat belt would not unlatch so I took the vehicle to a Hyundai dealer they jerked on seatbelt it and it unlatched, then stated they could do nothing else. This belt just unlatches when you pull it.”

“The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the driver side seat belt sensor needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 6,341.”
