“I am reporting a serious malfunction of the transmission system in this vehicle on june 05, 2013, when my wife was driving the vehicle. She was pulling into a parking space early that morning as the vehicle was engaged in drive mode, with her foot on the brake, when she discovered that the gear shift was frozen and refused to move to park to enable her to shut off the motor and exit the vehicle. She was also unable to move the gear shift to reverse or to any other gear! …”

Lights came on my dashboard and I lost power completely. This is not the first time it happened, but the this was the scariest place it occurred at. I called Hyundai and they referred me to my local dealer, but I'm not optimistic about the results. Definitely came close to causing an accident. I did have my pregnant friend in the car. We were the only passengers.”

I was unable to move the shift to the parked position had to use a screw driver to manually release the gear and shifted to park. I drove my car home that day the next day I used a screw driver again and shifted to drive and drove the car to the dealer. On the way to the dealer other driver on the road blew their horns alerted me that I had no brake lights. Eventhough my head lights and rear lights were on. …”

NHTSA complaint #10507048, filed 2013-04, 70,000 miles“When driving my 2007 Hyundai Elantra se in 3rd gear (auto transmission), the 3rd gear indicator light intermittently flickers, causing the transmission to momentarily shift into 4th gear. Took car to dealer 3 times and hma had an engineer look at the car; replaced a gearshift pin switch and instrument cluster and vehicle still has the same problem. Hma claims that there is no problem with the car. Car can abruptly shift between 3rd to 4th and back to 3rd gear as light flickers due to the electrical problem.”
