“Driving ~10-15 MPH in public park, 2 kids in carseats in back seat. Weather was rainy. I had just turned on the rear window defroster for defog about 4-5 minutes prior. Sudden loud boom and rear/back window exploded, sending shards of glass into passenger compartment. There were no other people or cars around the outside of the vehicle, and I had not recently opened the rear hatch/door.”

NHTSA complaint #10273268, filed 2009-06, 7,580 miles

“The dash lights started flashing, the wipers stopped working in the middle of a down pour, the lights went dim. The traction system started detuning the engine. All dash lights on. We find that it is a leaky value cover gasket. Drips on the alternator and causes it to go bad. The service manager said they are all starting to have this problem and it's $700.00. If I was the orginal owner Hyundai would replace the gasket, but I would need to pay for the altenator. $600.00 uhgg!!! Now for the fuel guage. Two sensors under the back seat and good as new. $200.00.”

NHTSA complaint #10606207, filed 2014-06, 85,209 miles

“Driver's side sun visor broke from its socket while driving on the highway. The visor hung by the wire for the light. This is a well known defect. It is dangerous and should be addressed by the manufacturer. I was able to jury rig it back - very simple and easy; however their neglect of this is dangerous.”

NHTSA complaint #10927002, filed 2016-11, 85,000 miles

“My 2008 Santa Fe ltd that suffered a loss of the left rear quarter glass, including the frame molding, while driving on the freeway a few days ago. The glass company stated that it appeared to have actually break off of the bolts and simply fly off the vehicle. The only thing left on the vehicle was the urethane adhesive, which was stretched out around the back of the quarter panel. Another interesting note is that while inspecting the right rear quarter glass, it appears to be suffering from the same phenomenon, and may come off at any time. …”
