Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“We took the car in for a recall on the ocs and the dealer found two fault codes b1701 and b1706 indicating that both passenger and drivers side belt pretensioners resistance is too high.I see there are many 2006 and 2007 sonatas with a similar issue. Dealer wants a total of 871.74. With the number of repeated complaints I think there should be a safety recall.”

NHTSA complaint #10499327, filed 2013-02, 90,000 miles

“While driving I noticed that my air bag light came on, I immediately went to the dealer. They said that my passenger seat belt is defected. They said the cost of fixing is approximately $500.00, and the initial fee was $110. I looked online and there has been alot of complaints about this same issue.”

NHTSA complaint #10649953, filed 2014-10, 40,000 miles

“The air bag warning light in the instrument cluster came on and stayed on. All I did was start the car. When I took it to the garage to have it diagnosed the error that the garage got was b1706 - passenger buckle pretensioner voltage high . The cost to repair is going to be approximately $400.00.”

NHTSA complaint #10660418, filed 2014-11, 182,500 miles

“My front passenger seat belt flashes while driving along with the air bag light stays on in the interior dash, with or without a passenger the seat belt lights goes off when I come to a complete stop but the air bag light stays on continuous.”

NHTSA complaint #10950432, filed 2017-02, 129,500 miles

“Took the car into the shop for an airbag light. They said that it was a bad oc mat sensor. I was quoted $1000+ for parts and labor. I asked why this wasn't covered under the recall because my car was in the range 06-07, they said my VIN did not indicate an active recall. I called corporate and they also said I was sol. This is something that needs to be fully recalled, far too many of them are failing and Hyundai refuses to do anything about them.”
