Example complaints

Fuel system: “The fuel gauge on my 2004 Infiniti stopped working. I was driving on the highway and my fuel gauge, read 2/3rds full, I ran out of gas in the middle of the road. I had to have the car towed to a repair shop, the fuel pump was replaced. To date the gauge will not go below 2/3rds no matter how much fuel is left in the tank.”

NHTSA complaint #10443228, filed 2012-01, 62,000 miles

Engine: “The first incident happened on june 3rd driving to work and the car just gave out. It stalled, lights came on the dashboard and car died. I was able to drift to a side street in which I tried to start the car again; however, the car would not start up. I had to get it towed to my house. After sitting for the day, I tried to start it up again and it started. I was able to make it to the advance auto near my home where they put it on the machine to see if there was a problem with the alternator and/or battery. …”

NHTSA complaint #10515366, filed 2013-06, 137,519 miles

Electrical system: “Car's fuel gauge indicated nearly 1/2 tank of fuel remaining when tank is completely empty. I found out the hard way -- was driving, made a right turn onto a busy road, hit the gas and the engine died. If this had happened on I-75, particularly the 20+ mile stretch that's under construction and has no shoulders, this probably would have resulted in a major accident.”

NHTSA complaint #10353972, filed 2010-09, 117,500 miles

Seats: “Went to sit in car and heard a loud pop as I sat. Seat was then shaky and unstable. Further inspection revealed the seat was loose or broken on the left side. Took car to Infiniti where I was told the seat came out of the track and the seat track needed to be replaced at a cost of $1200.”
