Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“I was driving on the highway when suddenly my sunroof shattered. It sounded as if someone hit my glass with a bat. It was late at night and there were no trucks or other cars around me. There are no other scratches or dents on the roof of my car and no rocks were found in the shade with the glass. Thankful that I had the shade closed because other wise I would've been covered in glass and possibly cut. This has to be a recall, a safety recall at that.”

NHTSA complaint #11230732, filed 2019-07, 60,000 miles

“My 2014 Infiniti QX60 has a sunroof that exploded while driving on the freeway. I was driving approximately 65mph when I heard the loudest bang I have ever heard. I thought the car had gotten shot. Upon pulling over and examining the vehicle, I saw that the sunroof had exploded. I had not passed under any overpasses, no trucks were near my vehicle. I noted that the there was not even a scratch to the interior sunroof panel, which would have sustained damage if something had fallen on it. Furthermore, it was obvious from the glass that the damage was not from a falling object. …”

NHTSA complaint #11047043, filed 2017-11, 42,500 miles

“The tailgate will close on you and the sensor that tell the tailgate a person or object is in the way completely fails. Its dangerous for anyone but especially children or elderly. This does not happen every time. Sometimes with the interior release button and almost always with the remote key fob.”

NHTSA complaint #11022225, filed 2017-09, 28,000 miles

“Driving at highway at about 65 mph last night with almost no cars around us when we (wife and I) heard loud bang above us almost like an explosion. I pulled over safely and found out the sunroof is completely shattered out of the blue. There was no cars or trucks around us and no debris. It just exploded. We were not harmed since the shade was pulled and prevented glass from falling into the inside of the car. Very scary experience”

NHTSA complaint #11466590, filed 2022-05

“Excessive Corrosion and Structural Integrity Failure of Rear Subframe - Rust Through and disintegrated into broken pieces with holes. 2014 - Car only 7 years old, the structural integrity and safety issue of this failure should not occur in this period of time. Dealer quoted $4,600 to fix, and denied it should be covered under warranty”
