“When the brakes are applied it has a relatively long stopping distance compared to other vehicles. Fortunately Isuzu launched a recall campaign to address the problem and the ABS module was replaced but the problem is persists. I wrote to the manufacturer informing them of the problem but I have heard from them since then.”
NHTSA complaint #10098364, filed 2004-11, 66,310 miles“I have some very important issues pertaining to my 1998 Isuzu Rodeo. I read several blogs on a forum from other Rodeo owners that have had some of the same problems that I have with mine. The biggest one is the ABS system and the other is the fuel sending unit and gas gauge. These are two of the most reported problems but not the only ones. It seems that Isuzu should be doing something to correct these and other problems associated with this vehicle. The ABS has been addressed in some but not in others. …”
NHTSA complaint #10234880, filed 2008-07, 45,000 miles“It was raining. Went to stop at the intersection of scott blvd and n. Decatur going at approx 10 miles an hour. The brakes would not work. I released and tried again and there was nothing. Hit the truck in front of me. The module for the ABS was replaced in april 2003.”
NHTSA complaint #10051402, filed 2003-12, 107,000 miles“I bought a 1998 2wd Isuzu Rodeo from a private party six months ago. Since I bought it, I have been experiencing a loss of braking capability in some circumstance (every day, mainly when the engine is cold) that resulted in extended stopping distances and continuous illumination of the ABS warning lamp. My garage mechanic told me this issue is due to the ABS coil integrated module that needs to be replaced and that there is a recall on it for 1998-1999 Isuzu Rodeo vehicles (campaign no. 02i-002, campaign bulletin sb03-09-s001d, NHTSA campaign id number: 02i002000). …”
NHTSA complaint #10300246, filed 2010-01, 105,000 miles“My elderly father was driving the 1998 Isuzu Rodeo on I-78 west bound when the breaks failed. My father said it was as if the ABS came on and prevented the brakes from working. The brake faliur resulted in a collision with the the car infront twice. At the time no injuries were reported however my father has experienced pain in his shoulders. After investigating how the brakes could fail on the internet I came to learn that this particular model of Isuzu Rodeo had been recalled due to ABS brake faliur. This was the way I came to learn of the recall. …”
