“We purchased our 2011 Jeep Compass in december of 2011. Approximately 3 months later my wife experienced an engine stall in the middle of making a left-hand turn going approx. 20 MPH. There was no warning light or indication that the engine was no longer running. The power steering locked up and became very difficult to maintain control of the vehicle since happened in the middle of a turn into on-coming traffic. Within a month later it happened to me and again while making a slow left-handed turn. …”
NHTSA complaint #10467401, filed 2012-07, 4,000 miles“Outside temperature 102, driving posted speed limit of 75 MPH. After 1 1/2 hours warning light came on saying transmission fluid overheated, the speed automatically dropped to 55 MPH. I pulled to the side of the interstate and engine stalled. After 30 minutes engine started. Took to Jeep dealership and they said common problem and they could repair it for $1,000. I said the vehicle is under warranty. They said not covered under warranty. They advised I drive in the middle of the night and make frequent stops to avoid the problem. This has happened 5 times. …”

NHTSA complaint #10410322, filed 2011-07, 1,867 miles“With my foot on the brake, completely stopped at a light or stop sign, while in drive only, the car vibrates and the engine makes a loud rumbling noise. This can be felt in the steering wheel, brake pedal and throughout the entire car. When I take my foot off the brake or put it in neutral, reverse or park the noise from the engine and vibration will stop. The vibration is so bad it is uncomfortable to keep your foot on the brake, or hands on the steering wheel, making it dangerous, as I am having to put the car in neutral at every stop. …”
NHTSA complaint #10447015, filed 2012-02, 3,600 miles“I own a 2011 Jeep Compass for 2 weeks when I stopped at a stop sign, stopped and took off. Once I took off the Jeep engine just stopped. I couldn't tell it until I tried to turn and had no control! The dealership said the engine needed an update code, that they don't have yet for the 2.4l engine. So now I have a car with less than 2600 miles on it in the shop that we can't drive. Why would they sell a car that shuts off for no reason and they know about it? I have 2 small children thank god they were not in the car with me. Now we are in a rental. Thanks Jeep.”
