“After driving 3 miles on 2/1, the engine fan ran after the engine was turned off- which never happens. We called Kia for service but nothing was available for 2 weeks; all Kia dealers were similar. No check engine light was illuminated. My husband popped the hood, saw the coolant cap was open and the coolant fluid level in the normal range (slightly above the minimum line). Closing the cap, he test drove the car. …”

“On 9/4/18, while driving on the parkway I noticed my car was sluggish & making a noise upon acceleration. I thought it was my muffler because I didnt have any warning lights illuminated on my dashboard to indicate a major problem. As I exited the parkway, my car stalled & I coasted to the side of the road. I was able to start it a couple more times before it died for good. …”

NHTSA complaint #11145268, filed 2018-11, 50,093 miles

“Check bgd warning light came on screen while travelling at 40-45 MPH on a straight stretch of city road. Car immediately slowed down. Lost power brakes and power steering. Other dashboard lites came on - -check engine light, etc. I brought vehicle to stop and placed transmission into park,. Vehicle did not restart and the transmission was locked..dealer retained vehicle for 28-30 days and was not able to repair it. Dealer subsequently repurchased the vehicle from me.”

NHTSA complaint #11193630, filed 2019-04, 29,754 miles

“Our 2015 Kia second minivan overheated repeatedly in 2020 for unknown reasons resulting in a total engine failure and complete loss of value. After leaving a highway, the minivan overheated, resulting in a blinking engine light. It was quickly parked and later driven to a mechanic, who could not replicate the problem. After a period of operation at normal temperatures, it began to misfire. No warning lights appeared prior to or during these misfires. Nonetheless, we had the starter coils replaced based on a repair code. …”

NHTSA complaint #11375854, filed 2020-11, 80,000 miles

“My family and I were coming back from vacation and the engine threw a rod and shut off going 70mph down the road. I had the car towed to a Kia dealer near my house. They indicated I need a new engine at a cost of $8,400. The van is worth approximately $11k. I called Kia consumer support and opened a case to see if they would give goodwill since it is timed out of warranty. It is three months out of warranty but 10k under the mileage portion warranty. Since I am the second owner the 10 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty decreased to 5 year/60,000 miles. …”
