Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“On 6/9/22 I ran off the road and down a ravine. I hit a large tree head on and hit some smaller trees on the right side of the vehicle. After the head on collision with the large tree, it broke the frame in two places. The car had severe damage on the front and right side as you will notice in the pictures I am sending. No airbags deployed during this collision. I was shocked that none of them deployed after such a hard impact with the front of the car and the right side. The local police and fire department that arrived on the scene were very concerned that the air bags didn’t deploy. …”

NHTSA complaint #11477249, filed 2022-08

“Emergency escape issue Like many modern cars the aviator was designed with electric opening doors. Of the four doors, only the front driver side door has a manual override in case of emergency. That means if a major accident was to occur on that ONE door and disable the vehicle the other 3 doors do not have a way to exit. Why would the nhtsa allow a vehicle on a road that at a minimum doesn't have a override for left side and right side or more than one door?”
