“Got in car after stopping at grocery store and smelled gas, thought it might be from a nearby gas station. Got home and parked car in garage and about an hour later went in garage to take out trash. Garage had heavy smell of gasoline. Opened garage door, parked car outside and gasoline smell in garage went away. Took car to ford dealer and car was diagnosed with a split/leaking fuel rail on top of engine. Had to have metal fuel rail replaced.”
NHTSA complaint #10654769, filed 2014-11, 97,000 miles“Internal Water pump Failed causing immediate shutdown of vehicle. This water pump is internal to the engine and requires half of the engine be taken apart to be replaced. This affect all 3.5 and 3.7 Ford engines through 2021. Unlike traditional water pumps which are belt driven this one is driven by the timing chain. Thereby when failure occurs the engine shuts down. Coolant also leaks into the oil as a result possibly resulting in engine damage. Ford is fully aware of the defect and refuses to recall. …”

The contact stated that there was an abnormally strong fuel odor coming from the vehicle while parked in the contact's garage. Upon further inspection, the contact witnessed fuel leaking from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that there was extensive corrosion and rust on the fuel tank. NHTSA complaint #10908234, filed 2016-09, 187,000 miles“This vehicle was involved in a head on collision with 1997 mercury grand marquis. Both vehicles were traveling approximately 60 MPH. The intensity and rapid spread of the fire indicate gasoline from the fuel tank was not contained.”
