“I lost power to my 2010 Mazda cx7 while going 60 mp downhill in a mountain pass. My car went from 60 mp to 40 mp in about 30 seconds. I immediately pulled over as black smoke poured out of my tail pipe and had the car towed. My mechanic said the turbo was blown, which cause the car's oil to completely burn up, causing damage to the timing chain and engine. All of the oil was gone in a matter of a few miles. The car had been up to date on all maintenance. A new turbo and engine was needed on a car that had 74,000 miles on it.”

NHTSA complaint #11005194, filed 2017-07, 74,000 miles

“Sunroof shattered while driving on the highway at 60mph at 9:30am when I heard a loud crash on the roof of my car. I looked in my rear view mirror and saw many pieces of glass flying behind me. Thankfully, I had the shade drawn closed, otherwise, I would have been covered in a shower of glass. I managed to pull over and did not find any foreign objects or rocks (and saw no rocks bouncing in the street prior to this incident). The insurance company asked me what happened, but I had no explanation. It seems like the sunroof just exploded.”

NHTSA complaint #10759818, filed 2015-08, 85,300 miles

“Sunroof shattered - I just got onto I-43 via the on ramp and my sunroof exploded and came down on me like a shower of glass. I was able to pull over. I immediately looked for any foreign debris but there was none. I drove home and called the car dealer (holiday in fond du lac wi). They said they never heard of a sunroof breaking because of the heat or anything like this and my extended warranty would not cover. I had it fixed and heard about this on the news two weeks later. My car is a 2010 Mazda cx7 in excellent condition. The cost to replace was $597.08 plus tax.”

NHTSA complaint #10747160, filed 2015-08, 64,568 miles

“Tcs and check engine light is on. The car does not have power even if the gas pedal is pressed all the way, the car moves only up to 5 miles per hour (RPM power). Vehicle loses throttle. Ac blows warm when tcs light is on. There is a white smoke from the exhaust.”

NHTSA complaint #10915020, filed 2016-10, 55,000 miles
