“I have been informed that the rotors on my 2007 Mazda 5 need to be turned because they overheat and cause warping. It is not reasonable that rotors must be turned at about 17000 miles, I have seen on the web the numerous complaints about similar situation. They state that the rotors are a normal wear item and thus not covered. I have had many vehicles throughout my life and this quality and life of these rotors are unacceptable, vehicles average well over 30,000 miles before any type of maintenance must be performed.”

NHTSA complaint #10281108, filed 2009-08, 17,000 miles

“The contact owns a 2007 Mazda 5. While driving approximately 62 MPH with the cruise control activated, the brake pedal failed to operate. The contact applied the emergency brake, pulled the clutch, and the cruise control was deactivated in order for the vehicle to brake. The failure recurred twice. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the failure was undetermined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 116,000.”

NHTSA complaint #10860106, filed 2016-04, 116,000 miles

“The contact owns a 2007 MAZDA5. While driving between 35-40 MPH, the brakes failed. The contact maneuvered the vehicle to the right and left in order to slow down. The vehicle stopped and the contact exited. She noticed smoke and flames underneath the vehicle. The fire department extinguished the flames. After the investigation, the fire department could not determine the cause of the failure. The current and failure mileages were 44,000.”
